The Dark Side of Facial/Baby Wipes and Cotton Wool Pads
Cotton Wool Pads and Balls
Farming cotton makes a huge impact on the environment, especially when its not organically produced.
Chemicals from its production pollute rivers, damage local wildlife and severely impacts on our ecosystems.
Huge volumes of water are needed to produce conventional cotton. The size of an average t-shirt can take more than 20,000 litres of water in its production.
Water is irrigated from the surrounding areas which can cause a loss of natural habitats for plants, birds, animals and fish.
Included in this destructive cycle are harmful pesticides (if the cotton is not 100% organic).
Finally the cotton wool pads/balls are NOT recyclable and NOT flushable as they expand and cause blockages in our sewage systems!
Facial/Baby Wipes
Soaked with drying chemicals and alcohol they strip your skin of its natural oils and disrupt it natural PH balance weakening the skins Acid Mantle and reducing its protection.
The pressure required to remover mascara and lipstick from your eyes and lips, delicate areas of your skin encourages the aging process.
They are also NOT flushable or recyclable and don’t disintegrate in sewage causing blockages called ‘Fatbergs’, one recently found under the streets of London, 130 tons of wipes!
If they reach our seas they can be consumed by sea life and are as destructive as micro-beads which have now been banned.
They are said to hang around for up to 500 years in our ecosystem, just as bad as plastic bottles.
